I dig the gig of working globally and expanding outreach
After graduating from Duke University as a baseball player that never saw much of the world, I left home sweet home with a backpack full of peanut butter and baseball bat to “hit the world”. Beyond playing baseball in Asia and Europe, dancing oddly in front of thousands in China, picking up some French and Japanese (trying Dutch and Chinese now) and dodging gunshots (true story) and anti-American protests, I discovered that I really enjoy being abroad.
And the same goes for work with the exception of me getting products and services established around the world. I love helping great products reach new markets. I’ve assisted multinationals, intergovernmental organizations and startups in expanding their sales around the globe, particularly within Anglophone and Francophone regions. I’ve enjoyed several hands-on experiences with social media that include building my own social network and creating websites to understand the logic and value of these communication channels. And finally from a business strategy and development standpoint, I have made managed marketing campaigns where I created the messaging and designed the collateral.
My work experience includes:
- Sales – Helping Dutch firm (entreprise software) generate first deals and sales leads outside of continental Europe.
- Marketing – Repurposing marketing materials (presentations, emails, brochures) to speak more clearer to Anglophone audience, particularly targeting the USA
- Consultant - Advising small companies and NGOs on expanding their online presence using social media and creating more effective blogging
- Web developer – Building websites (WordPress and HTML/CSS) for small businesses and executive coaches
- Importer – I act as a trade agent and have purchased products from China and sold to buyers in Europe
On the side, I enjoy sports, importing products from Asia, teaching blogging and encouraging those around me to create rather than wait.
